Browzar is a small (204k!) portable application that you can store right on your trusty USB thumb drive - or anywhere for that matter.  Now, we know most of you are Firefox lovers, so brace yourself for this next one.  Browzar is based on Internet Explorer.  I know, I know, but hear us out.  As explained on the Browzar website “Love it or hate it: that’s just the way it is. We decided to build Browzar this way because wherever you go on the Planet, IE is likely to be installed on any Windows PC.” In reality, you never even see IE, and to be honest, we think Browzar looks and feels more like Firefox than anything else (in case looks are important to you).

See?  That’s not so bad is it?  Some of the key features we like about Browzar are:

  • Small file size and portable
  • “Boss button” for when you’re updating your facebook page and the boss happens to walk by.  The shortcut for this button is “Ctrl + Spacebar”
  • Upon exit of Browzar, all cookies, browsing history, cache and any other session info is deleted automatically
  • Does not use auto-complete, so none of your form info is ever saved
  • Pop-up blocking
  • Tabbed browsing

There are quite a few other features, but those were the ones that stuck out to us.  According to the Browzar website, proxy support is forthcoming, but until then it uses the built in proxy options from IE.  This does bring up an important point worth mentioning however.  It seems that while Browzar does a good job of ensuring that no browsing or personal data is left behind for anyone to see, your browsing session itself is not anonymized or sent through a proxy network as it would be if you were using the Tor Bundle as we’ve previously talked about.  So if you’re planning on doing illegal stuff with Browzar, don’t.  You’ll just get caught and look dumb.  But if you just want an extra level of privacy at home, work or that shady internet café you like to frequent, Browzar is definitely for you.
